BirdBrain Science for Differentiated Science Lessons

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend EdCamp LA. As is the nature of an EdCamp, I sat down for a slice of pizza with some interesting people, and among them was Brendan Finch, founder of BirdBrain Science.

I love seeing the awesome work that educators are working on with tech, and BirdBrain Science is no exception.

A while back I covered Newsela, a lexical-adjustable news source for reading the news. BirdBrain science takes a similar approach and applies it to Standards-based science lessons.

This means that regardless of your students’ reading level, they can keep up with the classroom content. No excuses and no discouragement.

For a small team, the guys at BirdBrain Science have built a surprisingly robust system. In addition to putting together multiple reading-level versions of common core aligned lessons, the back end of the site is equally if not more impressive. Lets take a look at how the articles and the reports work:
