OSHA announces policy change on monorail hoists in construction

7/3/17 A new enforcement policy now excludes monorails hoists from the requirements of Subpart CC – Cranes and Derricks in Construction. This policy change was made in response to stakeholder comments that monorail hoists are significantly different from other cranes and derricks, and therefore should not be grouped together and subject to the same requirements. Moving forward, OSHA will not cite employees for failing to meet Subpart CC requirements if they meet the requirements of the overhead hoists and general training standards. This policy does not change monorail hoist requirements for general industry.
