How-to: Google Cast for Education

I’ve been using the Chromecast at my house for a few years now. I absolutely love it. It is inexpensive and makes displaying video from my phone or laptop to my television simple. If you are not familiar, it is a small HDMI dongle that plugs directly into your TV and connects to your device over your home network to display video or a tab from your Chrome browser. The idea of bringing this into a classroom has been in my head for a while, but there are some things that prevent that solution from being a great solution. First, it has to be on the same network (and the network has to allow work with it.) So it may work for a teacher, but if your students are on a different network, it won’t work for them. If it does work for your students, it is very hard to prevent them from “casting” their screens to any Chromecast on the network at any time. Luckily, Google has addressed these concerns with Google Cast for Education.
