Only July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies claimed their independence from England. That event eventually led to the formation of the United State of America, from there on the Fourth of July was celebrated as Independence Day.
From picnics to fireworks, to historical reenactments, there are a number of events to celebrate the day throughout Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
In Minnesota, Minneapolis has been ranked the second-best spot in the nation to spend the Fourth of July. That is according to a report of 2016’s Best and Worst Cities for Fourth of July Celebrations by Wallethub. The city was recognized for its walkability and sundry patriotic events. St. Paul ranked No. 29.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, came in eighth on the list and Madison, Wisconsin, ranked No. 11. No South Dakota cities were found on the list.
