Not the learned, we need the Wise!

A wise old owl lived in an oak
The more he saw the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can’t we all be like that wise old bird?

This was the rhyme my 7 year old kid recited to me a few days ago. The conversation leading to this was quite curious.

Son:     Dad, don’t you talk a lot to your clients?

Me:      I have to, that’s my profession.

Son:     Do you really NEED to talk so much?

Me:      I have to understand their requirements, know what problems they are facing and then discuss how we can together solve that problem. I do NEED to talk a lot.

Son:     Then are you not wise enough?

And then came this forgotten rhyme!

That set me thinking, are we really not wise enough? Why is that we crave for information or knowledge that is so easily available around us (and for free)? Need we not look beyond knowledge to hone our skills, build capabilities and be wise enough to be creative in what we do? The internet has opened a Pandora’s Box of knowledge for us. What we need to do is review it , refine it and put it to best use.
