The Decline of the Textbook Empire Infographic

When the cost of print textbooks has risen three times faster than the rate of inflation, the fix is in: Something’s rotten in the state of educational publishing. And students, who shoulder the burden of rising textbook prices, have decided they aren’t going to take it anymore: 65 percent are opting not to pony up for the latest editions of already-out-of-date textbooks, regardless of the peril it presents to their education. Others are spending financial aid on course materials just to keep up in class.
