2015: The Year of the Next Industrial Revolution

Our last Industrial Revolution occurred from 1760 to around 1830, transitioning our society from doing most everything by hand to being assisted by machines and manufacturing. The need for quality industrial maintenance and reliability took hold during this time as well. Eventually, operations and facilities maintenance became concerns of process and manufacturing industries—considerations that still remain as crucial factors today.

Many thought leaders believe that we are moving into another industrial revolution of a different sort. The Internet has already changed many industries dramatically. For instance, the cost to set up an online store and produce virtual goods and services such as music, news, and video content has transformed commerce and production as we know it. Anyone with a computer and the appropriate software can potentially create and share these virtual items.
