As overall international enrollment in US universities drops, one country is still increasing its share of students: China.
The number of students who are coming to the States from China rose 6.8% over the previous year, continuing the trend of more incoming Chinese college students with families who can afford raising tuition and fees.
Data from the U.S. government’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) shows that in the 2016-17 school year, a total of 350,755 Chinese students were enrolled in U.S. universities, accounting for 32.5% of the total 1.08 million international students in the United States.
Studying and receiving a college education in the US is still a growing trend around the world.
Going abroad for education and international degrees can have tremendous benefits for both students and the countries they visit. Students can and often do return to their home countries once they complete their degrees.
