Add Additional Value to Guest Speakers

Schools are constantly bringing in guest speakers. School districts have regular events where a keynote speaker will be sought to inspire staff or present a new way of thinking. Many districts also have staff that are presenting keynotes and speeches on various topics to groups within the district and beyond.

Too often, I receive the play-by-play from colleagues afterward that typically includes “You should have heard him,” or “Her message was so amazing and inspirational,” and “It was something that everybody could benefit from.”

So, why doesn’t everybody benefit from it? We all have access to video right? Start thinking ahead and record it!

Keynote speakers, a Principal addressing parents, community guest speakers, even the reptile guy assembly could all be taped and shared with the school community. If the speaker doesn’t wish to be recorded and shared publicly, inquire about limiting the exposure of the video to staff only. Place it on an intranet. Or use YouTube or Vimeo to house the video and make it easily accessible to a larger audience if the speaker is comfortable with that.
