Are Student Loans Weighing You Down?

Our generation has an epidemic on our hands. I’m not talking about AIDS, SARS, child obesity, or even Justin Bieber. Rather, I’m referring to a more modern economic problem that is expected to double within the next two years – student debt.

Dallas Maverick’s owner and Shark Tank entrepreneur, Mark Cuban, explains in an inc.com interview that throughout the United States, students are well over $1 trillion in debt. In fact, in the past year alone, aggregate student debt has risen 10%. Since 2003, American students owed just over a quarter of a trillion dollars in debt. Since that time, aggregate student debt has ballooned over 300 percent.

The image below offers a clear picture of the drastic increase in student debt over recent years and the disproportionate share of the burden it puts on recent graduates. The real question is: When will the balloon finally burst?
