From the second month of my first semester as a university student, I worked part-time. I’d worked through most of my high school years too, but that had been pretty easy; my call centre shifts were only on Sundays if school was in session, and babysitting on weekday evenings wasn’t particularly hard. In university, I was working up to three different jobs at a time, and it was definitely challenging.
Some students choose to take a year off from school to work, so they can stack up some money for tuition and not have to worry as much when (if?) they enter or return to post-secondary education. If that’s your strategy, go for it. But I believe from personal experience that as hard as it can be to balance both work and school, it can be done. And there’s room for a social life too, if you stay on top of things!
