EDBRIEF: Bertelsmann acquires 40% Stake in Affero Lab

German media, services and education company Bertelsmann has acquired a 40% stake in Brazilian corporate training provider Affero Lab. The World Bank Group’s subsidiary International Finance Corporation also participated in the deal and now holds a 30% in the company.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Bertelsmann has the option to become the majority shareholder in the future.

Affero Lab has been a leading corporate training provider in Latin America for twenty years. Earlier this week the company announced that it will open an overseas operations centre in Dublin, Ireland.

Bertelsmann has made education one of three major verticals of its international business. In October 2014 it acquired Relias Learning for an amount in the mid-hundreds of millions USD. In February 2015, Bertelsmann invested in Alliant International University and in March it increased its stake in Synergis Education.
