Effective Gamification in the Workplace – tips and trends

Firstly, what is gamification?  According to the dictionary it is described as:

Gamification
ɡeɪmɪfɪˈkeɪʃ(ə)n/
noun

 “The application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service”

Gamification isn’t a new concept in fact you may be surprised at just how far back it goes. According to some sources, way back to 1912 when cereal boxes started giving away free prizes inside.  Although this isn’t directly gamification, particularly in the sense of learning, these were the humble beginnings of ‘fun’ activities for the consumer.
