Episode 26: Talking AECT’s Definition of Educational Technology with Dr. Michael Molenda

May 28, 2014

In this episode, I interview Dr. Michael Molenda. He is an Emeritus Associate professor of Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University. Dr. Molenda has been in the field of educational technology for over 40 years. I have been fortunate to have known Dr. Molenda since the mid-90s when I was a graduate student (along with having him as my dissertation chair) at Indiana University in Instructional Systems Technology.

The focus of the interview is on the book Educational Technology: A Definition with Commentary, which he co-edited with Dr. Al Januszewski. Dr. Molenda discusses a variety of ideas and issues related to the book: how he became involved with the book, the process behind how the book developed, and the how the definition of educational technology presented in the book was developed and how it has changed over the years. Dr. Molenda provides many personal insights about educational technology that are enlightening. The interview ends with advice for those starting out in the field.
