Five Tips to Creating Your Own Virtual Field Trip

In an earlier post, we introduced four virtual field trips that you could explore. But what if you wanted to create your own virtual field trip? How would you go about doing that?

There are infinite ways to create a virtual field trip and you have to use the tools that are available to you and that you are comfortable with. Here are some points and thoughts to consider when planning and producing your virtual field trip:

Cherry-Pick – There are so many resources already online for you to pull from that there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Head to YouTube and search for your topic of interest and a quick Google search will result in a treasure-trove of resources.

Gear up – Take a look around Video Homeroom at some of the equipment that we have reviewed to take along with you when visiting a museum, historical landmark, or anywhere else you wish to take students virtually. A compact video camera and the ability to take stills is a must. Then switch out various resources depending on the location such as a light, microphone, tripod, or even a GoPro.
