Holiday Scams to Watch Out For this Season

The holiday season can be one of the busiest times of year for scammers, according to the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota.  From launching fake websites to draining funds of gift cards to creating fake charities, the BBB has created a list for you to check twice to see who is being naughty or nice.

Scam: fake charity 

In the Twin Cities, a St. Paul resident lost out on $300 to a fake charity in November, according to a report on the BBB’s website. According to the report, the website in question looked like a legitimate, but is not.

This fraud is all too common during the holidays. Scammers take advantage of the generosity of others with fake charity solicitations in email, on social media sites, and even by text. Those fake charities are among the most popular scams around the holidays where scammers misuse the name of a genuine organization or make up their own.
