How to Tell if Your Pet is Suffering from Allergies

The sun is out; the trees are in full bloom, and you may notice that your pet keeps licking its paws into a pink, mushy mess. Pets, like a lot of people, can get seasonal allergies that flare up a few times a year. It can bring some discomfort to your furry friends – like itchiness and congestion. Allergies are a lot more common than you may know and it can take a bit of knowledge to identify and treat.

Globe University & Minnesota School of Business wanted to help you learn about common pet allergens and give you tips on how to help your pet if they have an allergic reaction.

What’s an allergy?

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, “most allergies appear after the pet is six months of age with the majority of affected dogs over age 2.” Symptoms of allergic reactions tend to worsen as dogs age, and unfortunately, there’s no outright cure for allergies. However, by identifying the allergy, you can treat the symptoms and help your dog be more comfortable.
