How to Use Learning Analytics to Measure Training

The term “analytics” seems to be everywhere these days. What are analytics? Or, more specifically, what does learning analytics mean, and why is it important?

Analytics refers to information, so it’s quite simply the study of data. Learning (or training) analytics is the study of learning data.  It is important because it allows you to determine effectiveness and impact! As a learning professional you need to know if what you’ve created is working on a tactical level. Did the training achieve its objectives?  Did the modalities and content support the learning of those objectives? Are the learners learning? Blow that out to the strategic level and you also really need to know if the learning is impacting job performance. This is why we exist as professionals and organizations and why our internal and external clients hire us, which is to help them achieve their business objectives!
