L&D: From order taker to learning facilitator

Early December 2015 I had the honour to co-facilitate a session during the Online Educa Berlin conference with Garry Hearn and Donald H. Taylor. The topic of our session was: “Reskilling the L&D Team for New Challenges“. Not only was this the topic of our session, it also seemed to be a recurrent theme during the various other conference sessions I attended.

What became clear is that most L&D departments have come to realize that the days of just processing employee development plans (the so called order taking) are over. So what now? 70:20:10 has become very popular, we’ve played with flipping the classroom, blended learning, MOOCs etc. Learning & Development professionals are more and more expected to take on the role of Learning Facilitator in order to help employees find their way in the increasing number of formal and informal learning options.
