I was able to view the CESI Learning and Teaching Conference through a variety of lenses this year, which was quite an eye-opener. ‘Lenses’. ‘Eye-opener’. See what I did there? But enough of the optical allusions…
Sitting on an online committee and helping to organise an online conference was a genuinely refreshing change. The shift to digital in all aspects of life since last March meant that a theme for the conference: building on the lessons from a year of blended and online learning presented itself before we even began. However, hosting the conference online presented some specific issues. On the plus side: no having to book a venue or spend money on lunch, saving a load of money. On the minus side: the risk of losing those brilliant real life networking opportunities that can be had between sessions, while simultaneously making the conference nothing more than a ‘Death by Zoom’ experience for attendees already tired with staring into screens all day.
