There were some heated battles recently on the Globe University – Appleton campus … literary battles that is.

In anticipation of National Library Week, a “March Madness” style battle of literary characters took place in the library. Entitled “Globe’s Literary Battle”, heroes were pitted against each other on one bracket and villains on another until one hero and one villain were left. Characters such as Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen, and Iron Man were some early winners on the Hero Side and evil characters like The Grinch, Captain Hook, and Hannibal Lector made up some of the Villain sides. Students voted each week on who they wanted to advance to the next round.

The winner of the Hero side was Batman, and the winner of the Villain side was the Wicked Witch of the West. There was then a short story contest that had to contain both the hero and villain and the winner got a $25 Barnes and Noble Gift card. The battle started in late February and ended during National Library Week (April 11-15).
