Location-based mobile learning

Globally, now the number of mobile users have been increased to 2000 million. The current scenario of the world is like they have become “Moboholic”. Now, no work is far beyond the reach of mobiles as they are captivating the desktop market.

Being non-partial with the topic, the technical aspects of the GPS must be discussed first.

Smartphones that we are using nowadays are fitted with a chip, which tracks the location of the mobile and provides info based on location. These chips are RFID (Radio frequency identification). Chips identify the use of electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to the devices. RFID can be transformed into many shapes like a chip, barcode, tags, stickers, scripts etc.

RFID technology can provide customised information on demand, it is not a surprise that it can be easily accommodated with the eLearning platform. How it works – Let’s say a GPS tag has been made for a historical place, once the chip comes in the range of the tag, the smartphone activates a link in LMS, providing the information about the place.
