Manage Behaviour not Device

Schools too often are focussed on controlling IT devices, locking them down, or restricting their use. I guess this comes from years of having a desktop environment where IT labs were shared (and by default none had complete ownership), or indeed the necessity to lock down desktops to avoid rendering fragile operating systems useless.

I believe those days are long behind us (or for the vast majority a few steps behind us). We are now in an era where the mobile device is king, and these devices allow us to work differently…if we let ourselves...

One of the fundamental changes that needs to happen is making the distinction between IT support, and IT responsibility. As a IT support ‘guy’ I am too aware that some teachers rely on IT support to take the responsibility for device management in their classrooms. This, to some extent, was perhaps fault of IT support in previous years (in part because they HAD to lock machines down) but now seems to be the go to stance when dealing with mobile devices.
