Massage Therapy Program Teams up with Alumni to aid runners at area marathon

Students massage marathoners as they cross the finish line at the Fox Cities Marathon

Students from Globe University’s Appleton campus met runners after they crossed the finish line during the Community First Fox Cities Marathon in Appleton, along with some recent GU-AP alumni. They were there to enhance finishers’ post-race recovery after the marathon with stretching, pain reduction, relief from cramping, circulatory flushing and more. Massage Therapy Program Chair, Kathryn Tollefson, coordinated the event along with Sandra Thein, Race Assistant for The Fox Cities Marathon. Ten therapists participated, which included seven from the Appleton campus, one from the Green Bay campus, and two alumni. Demand for the massages was non-stop, so they were limited to five minutes each. In all, students and alumni worked with almost 350 runners in just over four hours.
