MLW 2017, the main event of the UNESCO annual ICT in education conference

The Mobile Learning Week 2017: Education in emergencies and crises will be held from the 20th to the 24th of March at the UNESCO Headquarters. The MLW (Mobile Learning Week) is UNESCO’s flagship annual ICT in education conference, it is the sixth year it is held and it features government representatives from over 50 UN Member States.

Over this week attendees will evaluate the different ways in which technology helps to improve education and the personal lives of refugees and students who have been in a crisis and/or emergency situation, forcing them to abandon their homes and suffering the negative consequences of having done so.

As the official website explains: “The world is experiencing the highest levels of displacement ever recorded. In 2015, according to UNHCR , 24 people were forced to flee their homes each minute, four times more than a decade ago, and one out of every 113 people on Earth has been displaced due to conflict or persecution. What’s more, 51 per cent of the world’s refugees are children, many of whom have been separated from their parents or are traveling alone.”
