MSB – Rochester Practices Dalai Lama’s Message in Health Care Teachings

The Dalai Lama made a special presentation in Rochester on Monday, Feb. 29, at Mayo Clinic, where he has been receiving treatment for a prostate condition.

During a private address, the famous Tibetan Buddhist talked with staff about valuing education and compassion in health care. It is something Minnesota School of Business – Rochester stresses to students enrolled in its health sciences programs.

“The management of medicine by today’s health care professionals cannot be without compassion for the patient, those they work with, and those they manage/lead,” Kim Illg, Minnesota School of Business health care lead instructor said. “This is a fundamental emotional intelligence skill taught and demonstrated to our health care students as we teach and train them to be the health care administrators of the future. Head and heart (compassion) are the skills health care leaders need, as the field of Healthcare continues to grow and change. ”
