BRIAN’S OVERVIEW
I purchased a handful of these cameras for an ongoing project I have mostly for the Canon name and the $199 price tag. Based on my low expectations, I haven’t been disappointed though there is more that this camera can’t do than it can. Basically, it’s a point-&-shoot that captures nice looking video and audio. No bells and whistles. Not much manual control. Just turn it on and hit record.
But that’s exactly what I need it for. I am hitting record and walking away. For my purposes the cameras aren’t even manned. They are long lock-down shots.
For many classrooms, this is exactly what you need as well – especially for the low price tag on a Canon product. The camera is going to auto focus, auto gain, auto iris, and auto white-balance. They aren’t the greatest auto functions in the world and I see it varying constantly when editing, but not bad enough where it was unusable. They are more gradual changes seen over time.
