Rolling Along With An iPad Implementation

When we first started introducing iPads into schools and classrooms in the Encinitas Union School District in 2011, we selected grade level teams that we thought would best be able to support and were not so intimidated by the shiny things that were coming into their classrooms. Amongst the group there were those that were ready for adoption and had been utilizing what little technology they had access up to this point very well. We also had however, veteran teachers with a successful classroom management and instructional model that worked for them for years that used a paper-based technology. Some of the younger staff had not embraced technology in their own lives and struggled with how to make change for a model that they had not experienced up to this point. We often forget that our younger teachers were schooled in the very system that many of our veteran teachers had skillfully developed. They did not have a model to draw upon that was any different.
