SOS Children Kenya secures Sh. 1.7M food donation for vulnerable households

SOS Children’s Villages has secured food donation worth Sh 1.7 Million to help vulnerable households weather shocks from COVID-19. The contributions comprise of 10 tons of packed dry nutritional grain dense meal from KAPU Africa, a division of Midwest Foodbank USA.

There are more than 500 vulnerable households in Suba, Mombasa and Busia. Including Nairobi’s informal settlements like Kiambiu, City Carton, Dandora, Kariobangi, Mbotela, Bahati, Uhuru and Jerusalem will benefit from the donations.

Following the governments directive on the 5.00 am to 7:00 pm curfew and the 21-day containment for affected counties. Households that depend on daily wages and petty trade to make ends meet are finding it difficult to cope with the effects.

SOS Children’s Villages Kenya National Programs Director, Mr Pascal Mailu said, “vulnerable people are the hard hit by COVID-19 pandemic. And the donations will help them cope with shocks.”
