Using Drones in the Classroom

If you’re a “nerdie” educator like me, you’ve been looking for a great excuse to get a drone for your classroom or school, and now may be the time to get one as regulations keep changing!

In this article I’ll outline a few “legitimate” reasons you may get a drone as well as some of the best drones for your price range. After all, drones are certain to increase student engagement in your classroom projects!

1. Capture unique footage and photos of campus events (sports, etc.)

Have a journalism club? Why not get a drone they can record unique footage of events with! Want some unique shots of the school to use in presentations or the school website? Get them with a drone!

2. Study the local environment

If you’re in an urban area like myself, this may be difficult to get approved. That said, I grew up and went to a rural, public high school, where we frequently discussed the impacts of farming and other businesses upon the local environment. I’m sure at least a few of my teachers would have loved incorporating drones into field projects and mapping local farms/swamps, etc.
