Using Instagram For Social Learning

While it may not be obvious at first, some of today’s most popular programs can be used in educational contexts.

We have seen that Twitter can be used in a blended learning context, Facebook as a learning management system, and even Instagram within a classroom setting.

Instagram has become extremely popular over recent years, so it only makes sense that it too has its role to play in education .

If you are not familiar with Instagram, it is an online app that allows people to share photos and videos. It also links to other popular social platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Flickr.

The infographic below (created by Fedena) depicts seven different ways that you could leverage Instgram in the classroom.

What’s nice about these suggestions is that they don’t just apply to artistic courses like photography. For example, as suggestion number six demonstrates, you can use Instagram in science as well as a way for students to document the impacts of chemical changes in plant-life.
