What Skills Do You Need to Be an eLearning Designer?

For those looking to get into the world of eLearning, it’s easy to assume that the number one skill you need to possess is instructional design. And while instructional design does play a critical role in being a successful eLearning designer, there many more skills required to design eLearning content that is effective and engaging.

I’ve always believed that the process of creating an eLearning course is far more complicated than the process for producing other types of learning objects. When creating an eLearning course, the final result should be an interactive, visually engaging, digital experience that lets learners practice the skills they’ll be expected to perform on the job. And the process that you follow to take raw content from your subject matter experts and transform it into what I’ve just described requires a diverse set of skills.
