Why Knowledge Sharing is the Answer to the Skills Gap

For too long now workplaces have operated on the belief that hoarding knowledge is more powerful than sharing it. And it’s a belief that has got to stop.  Why? Firstly because it’s not true.

In a recent report by McKinsey Global Institute, it was discovered that knowledge sharing via social and knowledge management technologies can in fact increase employee productivity by up to 25%.

Secondly, hoarding knowledge leads corporations into segregating employees based upon knowledge and skill. This, in turn, causes skills gaps to widen, innovation to stagnate and an unhealthy office culture to permeate.

But by implementing a system of knowledge sharing, today’s businesses could solve some of their biggest challenges. It could even lead to breaking down barriers and bridging industry skills gaps too.
