Why Mobile Learning is The Next Big Thing

By the end of 2014, the number of mobile-connected devices exceeded the number of people on the earth. It’s forecast that by the end of this year, just over 2 billion of us will own a smartphone. Scary, or what?! Mobile technology has all but changed the way we live. Online shopping, banking, gaming and finding information (amongst many other things) have all become possible using a pocket-sized device. But now it is also beginning to influence the way we learn.

Using the internet to learn is nothing spectacularly new. For some time now, eLearning has been on the scene and enabled people to learn online via their desktop computers. But in more recent years, mobile has taken over desktop. As a result, trends such as Snapchat and selfies have started to emerge. And as Snapchat has been finding its way into schools, the case for mobile learning in education has become even stronger. This is where “mLearning” comes in: a more personalised, flexible, accessible and interactive version of eLearning. It’s eLearning, but evolved.
